Exotic Decor at Our Dallas store

We are fortunate enough to go on several trips a year to such exotic locations as India, China, and South America. During our journeys we stumble across unique items that might be vintage, antiques, or even the last one left. So, every trip, we're sure to bring our empty suitcases to fill with these rare finds so we can carry them back home.

Handmade Books in Jaipur, India

Making Books by Hand

This company was started when three young friends rented a booth at a trade fair 14 years ago to sell books and bags made of handmade paper. This Indian artisan has grown great lengths since then and now specializes in handmade paper, bags, books, and leather products. They are located in Jaipur, India and also have a small group of designers and workers from a small village outside of Jaipur.

Leah Davies, Wisteria’s Operations Manager for Retail and Flea Market, adopted her dog, Spunky eight years ago. He has been a handful from the beginning!  Spunky, as his name suggests, has quite the personality! Therefore, we are so excited to introduce him as this week’s dog blog…

What’s your favorite pastime?

When I am inside, I spend the day harrassing my brother from another mother, Zoro. We are a true Modern Family! When I go outside, I like to run the fence with my next door neighbor.

What’s the one thing that really makes your hackles stand up?

Anything moving outside. Could be a leaf blowing in the wind or another dog going by. I know this is crazy. My mom has taken me to a local dog whisperer as well as a psychologist. What can I say? I have issues.

What is your favorite toy?

I really like snakes.

Who’s your favorite snuggle buddy?

My mom. Every morning before she goes off to work we have a snuggle session.

Favorite treat?

Anything. I am not picky. If you did not know me you would think my mother never fed me. I wish they had an eating contest for dogs because I would be a contender. I am small but I can EAT!

What is your favorite kind of mischief to get into?

I don’t think I can choose one thing. When my mom named me Spunky she had not idea what that meant. I can find trouble wherever I go. My mom calls it high maintenance.

If you had to describe your perfect day what would it be?

Hanging out with my cousins Zoro and Kingston during the day with snack breaks as often as possible. Throw in a bit of sunbathing, some playtime with mom, and I am a happy pup!

Katie, our Merchandising Manager, entertains us daily with hilarious tales of her cat, Crosby.  He has so much personality he even has his own board on Pinterest! It took some scheduling, but we were finally able to sit down with Crosby, because we moustache him a few questions . . .

What’s your favorite pastime?

I enjoy staring at the ceiling fan, attacking my own feet, sitting like a meerkat, climbing in and on everything, chasing butterflies in the yard. In my downtime, I like to watch TV. I am a fan of The Real Housewives (guilty pleasure!), sports (especially the Puppy Bowl Kitten Half-Time Show), and Star Wars.

What’s the one thing that really makes your hackles stand up?

When people sneeze, bugs in the house, and the other cats drinking out of my water glass.

What’s your favorite toy?

I love playing fetch with twist ties, ribbons or peacock feathers.

Who’s your favorite snuggle buddy?

Anyone! If you’re sitting down, I will find your lap and give you a hug and some cuddles, but you had better reciprocate! If you are lying down, I will use your face as a pillow and make biscuits on your throat.

Favorite treat?

Chocolate ice cream, cheddar cheese, and tortilla chips.

What is your favorite kind mischief to get into?

One of my nicknames is Mew-dini because I like to play hide and seek–you never know where you’ll find me. My latest trick is escaping out of my collar and pulling a disappearing act out the doggy door meant for the 80 pound pups I live with.

I also like to bop the other cats on the head and chase them around. I’m just trying to play, but I get hissed at every time.

If you had to describe your perfect day, what would it be?

Wake everyone up by making biscuits on their heads, then a little frolic in the yard over the morning coffee. Follow that up with general oversight of the day’s activities. The place really runs much smoother when I am in the middle of everything. I’d squeeze in a few cat naps of course, and close out the day with some TV time and then off to bed!

Introducing Maggie, lovable hound of our Product Manager, Emily.

What’s your favorite pastime?
Sleeping in the sun. I love when the sun shines through the balcony door. I just lay there all day!

What’s the one thing that really makes your hackles stand up?
Squirrels and bunnies! I love to chase squirrels up trees, but they make me mad cause they won’t come back down and my mom drags me back inside. Same thing with bunnies, they’re too darn fast! One day, when I am not on a leash…

What’s your favorite toy?
I love my colorful rope.

Who’s your favorite snuggle buddy?
My mommy.

Favorite treat?
Peanut Butter flavored rawhide.

What is your favorite kind of mischief to get into?
I love to chew up remotes, but I don’t know why I always get yelled at afterwards.

If you had to describe your perfect day, what would it be?
Going to my Uncle Johnny’s house because my best friend, Teemo lives there. We would run and play around the house and in the yard. We like to chase each other and play tug-of-war with our ropes.

Zapp and Roger, feline friends of our Marketing Coordinator, Nikki.
Roger and Zapp

After seeing all the cute dog blogs month after month, we have finally decided to feature our cute kitty friends! My two twin tuxedo cats were very thrilled to be the first-ever felines interviewed. Meet Zapp and Roger!

What’s your favorite past time?

Zapp – Sleeping and eating.  When I was younger I really tried to be a cat model, but my other two past times (sleeping and eating) prevented me from it.

Roger – I love to lie on the chair and look out the window.

What’s the one thing that really makes your hackles stand up?

Zapp – I really dislike it when I am sleeping and Mom or Dad wake me up for no reason. They also like to put random hats or glasses on me. Oh, I also HATE baths.

Roger – I don’t like strangers or loud noises, they scare me sometimes. Also, my brother can be really annoying and try and bite me when I am sleeping.

What’s your favorite toy?

Zapp – I will play with anything. It does not take much to entertain me. Last week I found out that I enjoy playing with grapes that Mom dropped on the floor.

Roger – I love my pouf balls or the laser pointer. I WILL get that red dot one day!

Who’s your favorite snuggle buddy?

Zapp – I don’t really care who I snuggle with as long as I have my fleece blanket. Do you want to snuggle?

Roger – I love to snuggle with my Mom, she gives the best belly rubs. I will snuggle with Dad if she is not home.

What’s your favorite treat?

Zapp – I have been called weird for this but I really like French baguettes. I also like tuna. I have not tried them together but that might be tasty.

Roger – I love tuna! I can hear when the can is being opened. Yummy!

What’s your favorite kind of mischief to get into?

Zapp – Any and all, I really like to hide somewhere and stick my paw out as someone walks by or I like to sneak in to the garage and roll on the ground and get covered in dirt or dust.

Roger – I am typically a sweet cat but sometimes (all the time) my brother does something to annoy me and then I have to chase him around the house and wrestle. I always win.

Nikki

Maizie is the loving K9 of our Senior Creative Manager, Paige.

What’s your favorite pastime?

Sleeping. Followed by some sunbathing. Then more sleeping.

What’s the one thing that really makes your hackles stand up?

I’m pretty mellow, a pacifist really. I don’t chase squirrels or cats, and I’m nice to kids. But I do not like it when strangers walk up on the porch. I do not like it at all. Watch out, strangers!

What’s your favorite toy?

I like tennis balls and my Kong, but my favorite toy is my new bed. So comfy!

Who’s your favorite snuggle buddy?

Paige is my favorite snuggle buddy at home. Miles (Paige’s cat) tries to snuggle with me, but I am resistant and confused by this. At my grandparents ranch, I like to snuggle with Buster and Duke, my dog cousins.

Favorite treat?

I like an egg on my dog food occasionally. But for a treat, I love anything human. I’ve even been known to get in the trash for leftover yogurt and ice cream. I like sweets; what can I say?

What is your favorite kind of mischief to get into?

I love to get on the furniture when Paige isn’t looking. Aforementioned dumpster diving. I also really love to howl when ambulances go by. I get all the dogs in the neighborhood riled up. And my pitch is near perfect!

If you had to describe your perfect day, what would it be?

It would probably start with sleeping late in my new bed. Waking up, going outside for breakfast, and then hopping in the car to go to the ranch. I love riding in the car, and I am a good passenger. I just lay down and sleep or put my head on Paige’s shoulder while she drives. Once at the ranch, my dog cousin Buster would come over, and we would play and chase horses. If we are lucky, we might get to go swimming and chase tennis balls into the water. At night, all the humans would come out to watch the sunset, and we would take a long walk down the gravel road. And then before bedtime, we would get treats! That would be a perfect day.

Noodle on the Dog Blog
What’s your favorite pastime?

My favorite hangout spot is in front of the fireplace. I know it’s a bit of a cliché but it’s a great look out spot where I can keep an eye on everyone. Plus it has nice cold tiles on my belly when I lay out like a frog.

What’s the one thing that really makes your hackles stand up?

Really intense games of “Hide-and-go-seek” that my Dad and I play. I have to sniff him out in the house. Sometimes I find him in closets, behind sofas, or behind doors. One time I ran into the bedroom and he jumped out from behind the door, and then we wrestled it out… I won of course.

What’s your favorite toy?

Pretty much anything that I can chew on and make noises with… sometimes I like to run around the house at full speed and squeak my toy as many times as I can. This gets everyone’s attention!

Who’s your favorite snuggle buddy?

This is a toughie… Dad loves to use me as a pillow while watching TV, which I don’t mind at all, and Mom gives great belly rubs when we are hanging out.

Favorite treat?

ICE CUBES! No matter if it’s hot or cold out I can’t get enough of these things. I can hear the ice dispenser from any room in the house, and I make sure to coming running so I can get in on a little snack. For some reason they call it “Happy Hour” time.

What is your favorite kind of mischief to get into?

My neighborhood friends and I are in a covert operation to dig holes under all the fences so we can all play together whenever we want.  I think they are on to me though, because my nose gets really muddy when I dig my holes!

Akira and Atari

What’s your favorite pastime?

Akira: I like sitting on my owners and trying to lick their hands while they pet me.

Atari: Anything that bothers my sister.

What’s the one thing that really makes your hackles stand up?

Both: The neighborhood cat who stares at us over the fence in the backyard. It’s always taunting us.

What’s your favorite toy?

Akira: My nyla bone  Atari: Whatever my sister is currently playing with.

Who’s your favorite snuggle buddy?

Akira: My mom and dad

Atari: Sometimes I try to snuggle with my sister or the cat, but they usually just bite me and run away.

Favorite treat?

Akira: I will do anything for a milk bone

Atari: My dad’s dirty socks, things I find in the yard, pillows. I’m not a picky eater and I’ll try anything at least once!

What is your favorite kind of mischief to get into?

Akira: I like to bark at the backdoor to be let inside, but when my mom opens the door, I just run away. Ah good times!

Atari: I like to sneak into the laundry room to steal socks, but sometimes the door closes behind me and locks me in so I get caught.

If you had to describe your perfect day, what would it be?

Akira: My perfect day would involve never getting out of bed while my mom and dad shower me with treats and attention.

Atari: I would love to take my mom and dad on a long walk. When I got home I would bark at the birds in the backyard for hours. Then I would come inside, then I’d go outside, then I’d come inside, then I’d go outside…

About two months ago I made a trip to the Denton Animal Shelter to look at possible volunteering opportunities. Little did I know I would not end up leaving empty-handed. On Friday, September 2nd, I adopted a 50-pound heeler/bull mix, and decided to call him Klaus.

Oh so bashful.

Fortunately for me, he arrived just in time for his first Halloween with me. I go all out for this delightfully spooky holiday, and always come up with several costumes for various parties and events throughout the month. Klaus has adapted to my customs and has acquired a few costumes of his own, but now he can’t seem to decide which one he wants to wear for the big night. Here are just a few that he seems to like the most:

To mark National Dog Week and as part of Vine’s ongoing bring-your-dog-to-the-blog series, the team asked me to share a little about my two rescues, Nellie and Ray. She’s an octogenarian sorta-Corgy, and he’s a middle-aged Aussie with questionable personal hygiene. But my wife and I love them both in all their differences, which prompted me to make this little 30-second video, casting them in a ’70s sitcom I think they’d be perfect for.
