Exotic Decor at Our Dallas store

We are fortunate enough to go on several trips a year to such exotic locations as India, China, and South America. During our journeys we stumble across unique items that might be vintage, antiques, or even the last one left. So, every trip, we're sure to bring our empty suitcases to fill with these rare finds so we can carry them back home.

Handmade Books in Jaipur, India

Making Books by Hand

This company was started when three young friends rented a booth at a trade fair 14 years ago to sell books and bags made of handmade paper. This Indian artisan has grown great lengths since then and now specializes in handmade paper, bags, books, and leather products. They are located in Jaipur, India and also have a small group of designers and workers from a small village outside of Jaipur.

“The Akola Project is one of five sustainable development initiatives of The UAPO (Ugandan American Partnership Organization). Since 2007, the project has empowered more than 200 women in Uganda to uplift their families and communities through income-generating crafts, such as jewelry-making, combined with village savings and loans programs. Akola Project sales provide fair wages to the women, many of whom are widows and HIV-positive, so that they can afford medical care and school fees for their children. Additional proceeds contribute to funding The UAPO’s other projects, which include drilling water wells and building vocational centers throughout Uganda.”

We are happy to financially support The Akola Project in its special mission. To learn more, visit akolaproject.org.

Wisteria Dallas recently hosted a trunk show for GAIA Empowered Women.  We had so much fun helping to support this great cause!  Founded by Paula Minnis, to help lead marginalized women to financial independence and self-sufficiency through employment, encouragement, and dedication to their long-term success in our own local communities.  Using vintage, repurposed, or sustainable materials to create bright colored, fun accessories and table linens.

If you are in Dallas, stop by our store to shop GAIA…great gifts for moms, friends, teachers and yourself!

Defenders of Freedom is a nonprofit organization supporting troops currently deployed or have been injured during battle. It formed in 2004 from a group of “Army Moms” who gathered frequently at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport to welcome home the troops. This gathering formed what is now the Defenders of Freedom. They raise money through events such as sponsored golf tournaments and fundraisers. This helps those in uniform and their families with funds for food, gas, and bills, and provides them as much emotional support as possible. For troops overseas, they put together support boxes filled with items for the soldiers to enjoy.

We are happy to financially support Defenders of Freedom in its special mission. To learn more, visit defendersoffreedom.us.

Food for the PoorFood for the Poor seeks to spiritually renew impoverished people throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Ninety-six percent of the funds they receive go to setting up water systems, feeding the poor, and providing direct relief assistance through the distribution of any requested materials in the local churches and charity organizations. Food for the Poor has also committed to providing as much help to those in Haiti as possible. Almost two years ago Haiti was shook by the earthquake that devastated its community. Food for the Poor has been able to build more than 2,200 permanent homes there, but the need is still great. With your support and donations, they can continue to help the impoverished.

Childrens Craniofacial FoundationEvery year, more than 100,000 children are born with or develop a craniofacial condition. The Children’s Craniofacial Association (CCA) was established in 1989 to empower, educate, and give hope to the individuals and families affected by this disorder. They provide support to those affected, promote awareness, educate individuals through workshops and symposiums, and fund medical research on the craniofacial condition.

Beyond the face is a heart. With your support, CCA can help foster a positive environment of acceptance and strength for those who have been affected by this condition and provide the care necessary for these children to grow up to lead productive lives. To learn more about this disorder or how you can help, go to www.ccakids.org.
