Since we work at a company with an extra special affinity for interior design, we come across a lot of employees who love collecting, who just love stuff! I love hearing all the great things people have spent their time gathering, wondering through antiques stores, digging through estate sales, and picking up from their global travels. Sometimes people just happen to inherit a great collection of stuff.
Here are some collections our employees have:
Joe, our Director of Merchandising and Content, has inherited his father’s pocket watch collection. He has over 100 of them! See a few of them above, showcased in our Curiosity Domes.
I (Brittany) love collecting old, all white dishes (plates, bowls, creamers, pitchers, etc). I love everything from heavy ironstone to dainty china. The funny thing is most of the places where I find these dishes usually don’t have the best lighting (think estate sales or thrift stores); as a result, I wound up with a few cream dishes in the process!
Alice, our Marketing Manager, collects antique napkin rings. It all started with a collection from her mother, and it has gradually grown over the years. She displays them in clear acrylic containers on her bookshelves. Can’t you just image how graphic and elegant they must look!
Kameilia, our Strategic Marketing Manager, used to collect pencils. As a kid, she collected these inexpensive souvenirs from the places she visited, and her relatives brought back pencils from their trips. She still has over 1,000 unsharpened pencils!
Marlene, our Head Product Designer, has a large collection of shells. She has loved collecting them ever since she was young. Once when she was younger and her family went to the beach, her knew dad how much she loved shells, so her stopped at a souvenir shop and bought some shells. Later that day as they walked along the beach, her dad dropped a few in her path without her knowing it to make sure she “found” some beautiful shells!
Casey, our SEO coordinator, is hooked on collecting steins from around the world. His aunt first got him started when she brought back one for him from Belgium. Now he has one from Germany, Italy, England, and other countries.
Amanda, our Associate Product Manager, just started collecting antique bottles. She loves their interesting shapes, sizes, and colors. So far, she has a champagne bottle, a motor oil bottle, and what looks to be the first bottle of Midol, all unopened!
Katie, our Store Merchandising Manager, has a small obsession with collecting rubber ducks! She has tons! They remind her to stay youthful, enjoy simple pleasures, and have fun!
Tracy, our Store Sales Associate, collects old compacts and wedding bells. Her father-in-law is a collector himself. He started the compact collection for her and gave her and her husband the collection of bells. At one time, her father-in-law’s grandmother had the largest bell collection in the United States! That collection has been passed down to them!
Toni, Digital Media Specialist, collects key chains as a way to remember where she’s visited. Now, friends and family have started giving them to her as gifts, so her collecting is quickly growing!
Serge, our European Director, collects many things and has been collecting for years. In fact, some of his collections have inspired Wisteria product ideas. He collects everything from early Chinese and Indian art pieces to 16 and 17th-century religious sculptures and everything in between!
Shannon, our Vice President and Andrew’s wife, collects nativities and Christmas ornaments from around the world! Can you imagine how great her house must look at Christmas! No doubt the nativities we have at Wisteria must come with her stamp of approval!
We’d love to hear from you! What are some of the things you collect?
